Fedorace RHL had once occupied but without a clear route sheet. Non-enterprise RHL users soon switched to Fedora instead. The first release of the Fedora distribution appeared on November 6 of the same year.

Other Alternativeschoose to install and manage those corporate-oriented distros mostly likely won’t need to read a book like this to make that decision. Also, because I focused this book on desktop distros and skipped environments like the cloud or servers, other interesting and promising distros like Papyros and Apricity OS are not covered here.

Task-Oriented Distrosributions can be customized, but all of them were made with only one type of task in mind, as specific as building a firewall to protect a network from security breaches or as ambiguous as scientific research.

Ubuntuell in order to achieve such recognition. I can safely say that when it comes to Linux history, you can divide it into the era before Ubuntu and the one after it. I think this is reason enough to start my distro analysis with Ubuntu.

Debianmake it a unique distro. Its "genealogy tree" is the biggest one of all the distros. Debian is the parent of many distros. In fact, almost half of the currently active, maintained distros are based on Debian, either directly, like Ubuntu or Knoppix, or two or three generations removed, like Ubuntu or Mint.
