Exploring Inequality in Comedy in the East Midlands and Challenging Inequality,ough reinforcing the narrative that things are the way they are and not changeable. In the last part of the chapter, I discuss strategies for increasing diversity within comedy, including through comedy nights for marginalised performers and grants and funding for comedians.

Introduction: Understanding Comedy as a Cultural Industry,goes on to provide an outline of the book and the methodology used to carry out the research. The chapter will then outline the comedy ecosystem in the UK and why the East Midlands was chosen as a case study in the book.
