The Role of Complement in Phototoxic Reactions,hototoxic reactions . Photoallergy is mediated by an immunologic mechanism and occurs in a small percentage of the exposed individuals. It fulfills the criteria for allergic sensitization with respect to induction, incubation period and reaction time . Clinically, it is manifested as cutaneous erythema, edema and a papulovesicular eruption.
