German Philosophy and the Concept of Ideology, philosophy with history, consummated in Germany. That is to say, the concept of ideology in the broadest sense was born of that marriage, and so too were the narrower concepts. This whole family of concepts derives from the attempts by German philosophers to explain what knowledge is and how it arises.

Class Ideology and Class-Consciousness, part of the activities typical of it, but of other ideas. If we call the first ideas ‘primary’, we may call the others ‘secondary’. The ideology of a group consists only of secondary ideas, but this, of course, does not imply that all such ideas are ideological.

The Political Uses of Ideology, Thus ideology, in the narrower ‘political’ sense, feeds upon ideology in the broader and looser sense. Indeed it not only feeds upon it but also helps to transform it. This interaction between ‘political’ and ‘popular’ ideology, though often noticed, has never been studied.
