The driving force of brine rejection on the deepwater formation in the Hamburg LSG OGCMr falls below the freezing point by more than a few tens of centigrades. With the incorporation of a sea ice model the OGCM can react on prescribed atmospheric temperatures which fall below −30 °C. The problem of a warming deep ocean then vanishes.

Plastic Modelling of Glaciers and Outlets basic in the model has been that the bottom shear stress is assumed constant along a flowline (Orowan, 1949). This gives a simple calculation scheme for an ice sheet profile with an arbitrary bed surface. The unit “force” that cause this bottom shear stress is popularly called “driving stress”.
