But it seems that the technical character of the work prevented it from being widely studied, and that its influence was therefore very limited. The . was entirely unknown in medieval Europe.

Interpolations in the Text,suggestion that Ibn al-Haytham is the author of the entire text we have. However, there are strong reasons for believing that a number of passages were not written by Ibn al-Haytham, but added (or revised) by one or more later and less competent commentators.
