Hermann Haken: Youth and University Education, The maiden name of his mother was Vollath, explaining the dedications in some of his later books. However, the place of birth of the young Hermann was not where his family lived. Their home was in Halle, some 40 kilometres from Leipzig, where his father worked as a librarian at the university.
