Steady Conduction in One Dimension,uction in one dimension leads to ordinary differential equations that are easy to solve. We present steady conduction in a slab, a cylinder, and a sphere to highlight the role of geometry in the temperature variations. Other modes of heat transfer such as convection and radiation make their appearance in the form of boundary conditions.

Even when the fluid can be considered as incompressible, density differences in the presence of temperature differences create a flow due to the effect of buoyancy.
