The West Indies,No rock salt deposits are known to exist on any of the 14 large islands or 3000 small islands, rocks, or cays that comprise the Bahama Islands. However, solar salt is made by the West India Chemicals, Ltd., at Mathew Town on Great Inagua Island.

Africa,Algeria has been a source of salt for thousands of years. The salt lake at Ourargla which was eight days by camel south of Biskra is said to have been visited by the five Nasamonian youths of the Herodatus. Many of the salt deposits were on important trade routes, such as Algiers to Djelfa and Laghouat, and quickly became famous.
