Uniform Color SpacesE2000 color-difference equation is the current CIE recommendation for computing small color differences. Future research in the area of the color difference may be based upon a more uniform color space, based on color-vision theory, and capable of accounting for different viewing parameters.

The CIE Systemter briefly describes the development of the CIE system and explains key principles (such as additive color mixing and Grassman’s laws) upon which the system is based. Specification of color by tristimulus values is described and the importance of chromaticity diagrams is discussed.
