Probing Nuclear Structure with Photon Beams,ition matrix elements. Photonuclear reactions are also important for our understanding of the synthesis of the chemical elements in the universe. In this chapter, different types of intense photon beams, the formalism of photonuclear reactions, and their application to current questions in nuclear structure physics are introduced and discussed.
