Hevelius, The Merchant Astronomer,Born on January 28, 1611, only 3 or 4 months after Galileo made his first astronomical observations, Johannes Hevelius was the first major astronomer to live his entire life in the telescopic era. In spite of that, many of his observations, especially those of the star positions were made with non-telescopic instruments.
