The Gel-Glass Processd state at low temperatures. In this way a “precursor” material (gel) is formed from which glass may be obtained by subsequent elimination of the unwanted residues (water, organic compounds, etc.) and collapse of the structure at temperatures much lower than those required for the direct melt formation by fusion of the constituent oxides.
