Decay Channels of Core Excitation Resonances in Atomic Lanthanides and 3d Transition Metals → 3d excitations have been investigated. The combination of three different experimental methods gives detailed information on the character of the giant resonances. In this context the study of the Z dependence turned out to be very important.
