Historical Secular Variation and Geomagnetic Theoryriation linked to the base of the solid mantle by lateral variations of temperature. In consequence the palaeomagnetic time-averaged field is expected to resemble the historical average and geomagnetic reversals to be related to secular variation features currently active on the core-mantle boundary beneath the South Atlantic.

Developments in Cave Sediment Palaeomagnetismch spans a far longer timescale than is accessible by lake sediment coring. This paper describes sampling techniques developed for cave sediment palaeomagnetism and presents results recently obtained from three sites in Britain together with a complete summary of world spelaeomagnetic data.
