The Post-Newtonian Approximation system but also for more exotic objects like the binary pulsar PSR 1913 + 16. In such situations, it suffices to study the effects predicted by general relativity in a consistent post-Newtonian approximation, i.e. at a level of approximation in which gravitational radiation plays no rôle.
