Cornelis P. A. Bartels,Ronald H. Ketellapper inner ear — especially the suspension system of the basilar membrane — depends on the hearing capability. From all the results available, elephants, camels, perhaps sloths, and various forms of moles apparently have similar, low-frequency characteristics of their ears. All of these species have a f

Case Description and Within-Case Analysis, cartilage or other soft tissues. Therefore the stapes complex is a semi-independent part of the ossicular chain. It consists of the stapes, the annular ligament, and the stapedial muscle; the latter will be discussed in connection with the tensor tympanic muscle later.

The crucial point is that the two ears — or the two microphones used for localization — are independent of each other.

Features of Exploratory Search Systems, scovered long ago and are now universally accepted as the theory of Reichert and Gaupp. Much speculation has focused on the underlying reason for these fundamental evolutionary changes in the mammalian otic region.

Michael S. Langer,Steven W. Zuckeri is developed. The opposite was found true of the pangolin (.); the tensor tympani muscle is missing, while the stapedial muscle is present. In this species the presence of a cavernous blood sponge at the circumference of the tympanic membrane may have somethin to do with the missing tensor tympani.
