Hydrogeochemical description of groundwaters from a coastal region of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil,us: sulphate, ammonia, nitrate and phosphate. Evidence of contamination by domestic sewage and salinization of waters were shown to occur in a localized manner. The occurrence of reduced iron in well waters was generalized. Soil-to-plant transfer of 137Cs related to its geochemical partitioning in Oxisols of tropical areaasic oxisol with normal exchangeable K contents presented lower Tf values: 0.06 to 0.11. These values were higher than mean values reported by IUR for .Cs for beans under temperate climate: 0.03.
