α SiAlON and α-βSiAlON Composites; Recent Research a minimum of glassy phase and with Y, Yb or Dy added as the α phase stabilizing element. Some of the rare-earth element α phases decompose at temperatures <1650°C, but others are stable. The usefulness of these ceramics at high temperatures is discussed.
