The Cheek and Orbit: Part II,ult orbit is around 30 ml. It has been calculated that an increase of volume by only 5 ml will produce about 4–5 mm of proptosis. Some degree of bulging is therefore common following trauma to the eye, cheek or orbit, but this is usually minor, temporary and requires not treatment.

Common causes of zygomatico-maxillary complex fractures in the walking wounded are assault, falls and sports injury. Zygomatic fractures in the young are more related to sports or assaults whist in the elderly they are more related to falls (. . . .).
