Very-Broad-Band Seismometry,ists in Japan in 1880. Most of their instruments were designed to record the largest possible range of periods. The Japanese seismologist Omori recorded beautiful broad-band seismograms of large earthquakes around 1900 which until recently one could not have obtained with modern seismographs.
