The Determination of Trace Metals in Air, rather than specific, property of the species to be determined. Obviously such devices lack specificity and therefore may provide misleading and erroneous data. Finally, there is an unfortunate tendency to introduce exotic methods and expensive instruments which are beyond the capability and budgets of many concerned organizations.

Studies of Sulfur Compounds Adsorbed on Smoke Particles and Other Solids by Photoelectron Spectroscthe oxidation state of sulfur on fly ash and smoke particles is discussed. The composition of the solid on whtch SO. is adsorbed was found to be an important variable in the rate at which oxidation to sulfate occurs.
