Zu den Gemeinsamkeiten zählen formale Aspekte wie Dogmatismus, Ausschließlichkeitsdenken und Freund-Feind-Vorstellungen, Fanatismus, Aktionismus und nicht selten auch Verschwörungstheorien und schließlich Intoleranz gegenüber anders Denkenden.

Okzidentalismus – Die „östliche“ Kritik an politischen Prinzipien des Westensle Konzept ließ sich grundsätzlich auch auf die internationale Ebene übertragen, zumindest in solchen (Friedens-)Konzeptionen, in denen die Staaten an den Platz der innerstaatlichen Gemeinschaften rückten und durch ein von allen geachtetes Völkerrecht geeint sein sollten.
