EU Accession to the ECHR Requires Ensuring the Franchise for EU Citizens in National ElectionsAs rapporteur of the European Parliament on electoral reform, I strongly support the launching of this ECI, and will sign it. Wider legal and political action will surely be necessary at the EU level. And changes to both the primary and secondary law of the EU cannot be obstructed forever.

An incremental approach to European citizenship can work, for example in the area of social rights and entitlements, but it is more questionable in the area of political rights.

Mobile Union Citizens Should Have Portable Voting Rights Within the EUWhen it comes to the problem of disenfranchisement of mobile EU citizens, naturalisation solves too little too late. Because of the specificity of the situation of EU citizens, alternative ways of political inclusion are preferable to naturalisation. I propose an argument for portable political rights for mobile EU citizens.

There is broad consensus that the current situation is untenable.
