Prevention and Remediation at Dam Sites and Reservoirs, examples of dam and reservoir problems in evaporites confirms this opinion. Much lower mechanical strength and much higher solubility when in contact with water (particularly if it is flowing or under pressure) determine that these rocks are dubious and hazardous foundations for dams.
