Raman Scattering from Longitudinal Acoustic Modes (LAM) of Crystalline OligomersLow-frequency Raman spectra were recorded for n-alcohols,α-methyl,ω-methoxy-oligo (oxyethylene)s and α-hydro, ω-hydroxy-oligo(oxyethylene)s. On the basis of linear crystal models, non-linear relationships between whole-chain LAM-1 frequency and reciprocal chain length, have been explained as effects of end- masses and end- forces.

Growth, Nucleation and Thickening Rate Minima in Long Linear Alkanesples of unusual retardation effects observed both during primary crystallization in the temperature region where chains first begin to fold and also on isothermal thickening from once-folded to extended chain crystals. The associated crystal morphologies are discussed and the concept of “self-poisoning” is introduced to explain the results.
