Against the Empathetic Fallacy: On the Seriousness of the Moral Point of View,terpersonal emotions such as empathy. It is argued that an excessive emphasis on empathy encourages a morally problematic “selfie culture” that obscures our ethical self-understanding by eliminating the critical distance to the other person. Some connections between such a “selfie culture” and the pursuit of theodicies are also critically explored.
