How Waves Change Shapes and Volumes,The phytonic theory and the telome theory are two popular classical beliefs concerning the organogenesis of higher plants. These theories try to answer the question of how plant organs and thus morphology have evolved. This chapter reviews these two mutually antagonistic theories in detail and points out their shortcomings.

Discussions are made to show that the occurrence of secondary growth in this group of plants cannot be explained by the telome theory, and a new theory is needed to explain the secondary growth.
