User Modelling as an Application of Actorsse (KB). This paper describes a UM strategy in a system for generation of NL explanations. The idea is to track the user’s requests and to modify the declarative patterns for information retrieval by actors. This allows for dynamic tailoring of the explanations to the user’s previous knowledge.

Spatial Universals as the Human Spatial Notion paper discusses a conceptual graph approach to defining such spatial notions (i.e. spatial universals) as a finite set of canonical graphs and suggests its use to derive a potentially infinite number of canonical graphs. Our approach is illustrated by a bilingual example.

Analysis of Task-Oriented Conversations into Conceptual Graph Structuresof task-oriented dialogs. We show how several techniques of the CG theory (concept type lattice, concept schematas, case relations, anaphoras) can be put to use in a practical system integrating other technologies (robust parsing, neural nets).

Prognosis: Contradictions and CoalitionsA semiotic framework for the syntactic structure of language is introduced. From properties of syntactic signs a parsing algorithm is derived. Using English as an example it is shown that, by means of its syntactic structures, the English language implements signs, analogous to those of Peirce’s semiotic triads.
