Cryptography and Function Fields,We study the thermodynamic behaviour of spin and gauge systems in the presence of a quenched external random field. In particular, we show that for Z (2) spin gauge theory in two space dimensions, the random field destroys the ordered phase and thus leads to a shift in the lower critical dimension, just as found for the corresponding Ising model.
