Foreign Judges and the Emergence of a Tanzanian Judiciary, 1964–1971ary. This chapter also analyses the backgrounds and experiences of the first Tanganyikan African judges, including those who were trained abroad and at the Faculty of Law in Dar es Salaam. It asserts that the process of decolonising the Bench concluded in 1971 with the appointment of the first Tanganyikan African Chief Justice.
