R&D Needs of Chemical Separation Technologies for Nuclear Wastes from the Perspective of Federal Govrials for both civil and defense needs (nuclear weapons production). The Federal Program targeted on remediation of the territories contaminated by nuclear materials production will be reviewed, risk assessment methodology in developing an effective cleanup strategy will be discussed, and the R&D needs will be summarized.

Reprocessing of Nuclear Fuelor eventual storage in geological repositories. More efficient reprocessing methods have resulted in reduced actinide content in reprocessing wastes. However, there is much room for improvement in reprocessing as well as in nuclear waste management.

Technology Needs for Actinide and Technetium Separations Based on Solvent Extraction, Ion Exchange, cycle design in which all inputs and outputs of an industrial activity are considered and optimized to balance environmental costs and societal benefits. Separations technology will play an important part in achieving this goal.
