Figs. 77 - 106, Tables 18 - 20, cell wall hydrolysis in target cells within the separation layer (Osborne, 1979). Enzymes that specifically hydrolyze cell walls, viz. cellulase and polygalacturonase, are known to be regulated positively by ethylene and negatively by auxin (Abeles, 1973; Greenberg .., 1975; Jeffrey .., 1984; Tucker .., 1988).

3.1.4 Maghemite, gamma-Fe{2}O{3},n prematurely by exposure of the tissue to the plant growth regulator ethylene (Abeles, 1973). Ethylene-induced shedding shares many features in common with the natural process, and there is good reason to believe that this gaseous regulator may influence the timing of leaf fall . (Morgan, 1986).

The Cell Biology of Bean Leaf Abscissionng results in the shedding of the leaf blade. The basal zone resides at the petiole-stem junction and its activation leads to the loss of the petiole. Weakening and subsequent fracture of these zones can be induced experimentally by removing the leaf blade.
