Technical and Office Protocols (TOP) CGM Application Profilefile is to promote interoperability between different implementations of the CGM. The TOP CGM Application Profile is the culmination of work done by the TOP Graphics Subcommittee, and comments received from a public review period which ended in March 1987.

Uses for CGM in Raster-to-Vector Conversion vector entity files that result from the conversion process. However, the CGM would be much more valuable if additional features such as global segments (symbols), font metric information, and support for arrows, splines, and closed figures were available as CGM elements.
