Indication for 224Ra-therapy in ankylosing spondylitis (Morbus Struempell-Bechterew-Marie)adiation emitted by its disintegration products, the disease is favourably influenced during phase II and III so that active therapeutic exercises as well as balneological treatment becomes possible while the patient is hospitalized for 10 weeks.

Therapeutical results in a follow-up study on 224Ra-therapy of ankylosing spondylitiss group a higher inflammatory activity. The subjective complaints decreased continuously only for 19%. In comparison to this, the clinical and röntgenological statement showed no differences. There were no references to damage by radioactivity in any of the cases.

Radiosynoviorthesis: local treatment of rheumatoid arthritisright dosage and the right isotope are used. In the treatment of the knee joint we achieved good or very good results in over 50%. Cases where the therapy has not been successful or very unsatisfactory are joints in an advanced phase of articular destruction and progression of the systemic disease.

Intravenous injection of 224Ra in morbus Pagetach case and .Ra therapy had to be repeated in 8 patients. Therefore annual clinical and roentgenographic examinations of the Paget patients are indicated. To verify the diagnosis and to exclude sarcomatoid degeneration a biopsy should be performed before the therapy with .Ra is started.
