Martine Busch,Anneke Huisman,Adriaan Visserenno Besson, and further altered by Brecht (.), was put on in Cologne on 16 April 1955 and by the Berliner Ensemble in a production prepared by Brecht and continued after his death by Erich Engel, on 15 January 1957. Both Hanns Eisler and Paul Dessau have written music for the play; Dessau’s (1953–4) is that used by the Berliner Ensemble. This is the most-performed Brecht play in Great Britain (443 productions up to October 1976).
