Hans-Albrecht Lehmann,Bruno J. Stolzet controversial humanitarian operations in the history of world wars. Finding out exactly what role Bernadotte played in that mission is important, because he was later accused of anti-Semitism and in 1948 of a bias against Israel. His conduct in the 1945 mission also throws light on his development as a leader and a statesman.

It recounts the main events of his life before he was assassinated, including the first and second truces, and describes Palestine since his death.
