Statistical Theory of Atom and Ion PolarizabilitiesWe used the statistical Thomas-Fermi model of atomic structure to describe the existing experimental data on polarizabilities of atoms and ions with closed electronic shells. Our aim was to get a theory without any approximations not connected with basic assumptions of the statistical model.

Radiative Decay of the Metastable States of the H and He Sequences — ExperimentThere are four known levels in the spectra of one- and two- electron atoms which can decay predominantly by other than an allowed El transition. These are indicated in Fig. 1. The theory of these decays has been described in the preceding paper. and we here summarize those properties that are relevant for experiment.
