ABPA is one of the clinical entities that make up the pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia (PIE) syndrome. Proper recognition of the specific PIE diagnosis is important for prognostic as well as therapeutic purposes. ABPA is the most common asthmatic presentation of PIE.
