Estimating cancer risks from air arsenic exposure using data on copper smelter workers, estimated levels of air arsenic exposure (Pinto and Bennett, 1963). As late as the 1970s the question as to whether air arsenic caused lung cancer was still being debated. As now, there was no good animal evidence that arsenic is a carcinogen. Also, there were both positive and negative epidemiological studies.
