Finding Supporting and Objecting Statements, is at least one more component to be identified: the statement(s) that the author introduced to support the claim. In the argumentation literature, this is often called the ‘premises’ of the argument; in other places it is ‘evidence’ or ‘justification’. In this chapter, we use these terms interchangeably with ‘support’.
