Angle Resolved Photoemission,s is used in modern experiments to gain insight into the electronic structure of solids. The current of photoelectrons is related to the electronic density of states; the larger the number of electrons that leave a sample with a given kinetic energy, the larger is the density of states at the corresponding binding energy.
