The chapter concludes by considering waves (both along the length and in the hoop direction) in cylinders; this is a rich example of differential coupling and the Donnell shell equations are used for an elegant simplification.

Higher Order Waveguide Models,gher order waveguide models but using only a limited number of modes. This utilizes the Ritz semi-direct method. Refined rod and beam models are developed and their utility in the context of structures as connected waveguides is discussed.
